As some have experienced, our current currency is pretty hard to obtain (gold).
I've been playing with the thought of slightly easing that by letting higher valued items exchange for said gold - emeralds and diamonds for example in a 2/3:1 ratio.

But then again - we have previously experienced issues with inflation and we should also consider the fact that the server is very fresh.
Not much gold has been set in motion yet and with the building of the huge railway a lot has been used.
I'm confident that more gold will appear and be set in motion and an exchange might actually prove to be moot and/or contribute to inflation and too much gold getting acquired.
I'm not all too comfortable letting less valuable items to get traded as I'm certain that definitely will advance an inflation.

Where the fuck is Professor Klandan when you need him? ;)

It might be nice to have that in place but the ratio will have to be not fantastic to make it only for emergency. In that way people will be less inclined to spend 10 diamonds to get a large amount of gold. Also you may want to make it emeralds only as that IS the vanilla minecraft currency with villagers and doesn't have much other use.

Honestly, I think blocks that are easily obtainable or used for building should be just made free. What I dont like about using things that are obtainable in ultra-vanilla, is that you can get most things from villagers. Basically, if this system is implemented I will be inflating the fuck out of the currency, as there is a really easy way of farming things from villagers, it just takes a while to setup.

Personally, the idea of currency doesn't bother me, with how cheaply a town can be managed and maintained, I aim at having Elysium to always remain a tax free society. I see no reason why I should have taxes on my people. Money is not a big issue for me, so lets not make it an issue :)

I personally liked how difficult it was to create and maintain a town in Tekkitopia - it made each town a little more significant and kept there from being bunches of towns. I think gringotts is a fantastic system in vanilla minecraft without quarries and the like.

well also remember it was incredibly easy to acquire money in Tekkitopia. This is vanilla, there is no fancy machines where we can mass produce gold, nor there be any tricks to do so either. so as it stands, i want it to stay the same as it has been when Knas created it this way. Its a good system and it works. no need to fix something that isnt broken. just my opinion.

It wouldn't have been easy if you didn't exploit the system. Anywho, I still feel like owning towns should have some prestige. But as it is, it's alright. Towns are already there and it would be unfair to require them to start over. So I just say Let it be. :)

I would hold off to make any additional currency. Emerald would be fine to add, diamond may work but may also remain out of circulation due to its worth in making tools. Either way, I would sit gold out until it becomes frequent enough that we don't suffer insane inflation.

Also if we do make diamond into a currency we should copy tekkit lite's ratio of gold to diamond (4:1).

Well, to judge from the comments a gold standard seem the way to go.
We'll keep it as is for now and I'm fairly certain more gold will appear and get into circulation, especially with shops being set up and so on - and I have a few ideas for some other uses that'll be appearing soon!

Thanks for the input ya'll, much appreciated. :)
