Time for this phoenix to rise from the ashes...

Should we start anew to bring in new players?

Hello everyone! Morbid/Scat/Bryan here. As of recent (for a bit now) the servers activity has dropped due to some site and server issues that are now solved and being watched closely to prevent any more problems. With this being said it is time for us to start advertising this lovely server. Of course bringing in friends is always a great way to start and keeps the community together. But when looking for fresh faces, some people may be turned off that the server is already built on and established and would rather a clean slate to explore/build with the rest of us. Along with this post will be a poll to see what the community's thoughts and feelints are about the server going future. Thanks!

oh wait now my neurons fired (thanks to a sun eruption)
u say u wanna delete all main?

i got mixed feelings about it.

i'll say only one thing tho:

i think we make the mistake of being all over the map alone.Or small groups.
We should have a megatown. With ppl coming and going about their businness, and shops... and activities (like building contest).

almost everyone goes far away... builds magnificent things that almost only he enjoys on a daily basis.
(with a couple of buddies max).. then gets bored and quits.

Now imagine a gigantic town... with districts...
the atlas's medieval district....
the knas's modern villas district...
Mom's and bob's (boms for short) with a colorful greenwhich village..
the Trailer park zone for girrraffies...
a downtown with skyscrapers and shops
a diagon alley with shadowy figures that sells drugs and potions..
a marina with boats and sailings ships..
an amusement park with rollecoaster, old west village (finally!)

i don't know.. just an idea.

all i'm saying is: if we start over... shouldnt we change something in the way we think about towns?
aren't we just gonna end up doing the same things all over again?

I think that the server shouldn't really be started over. There is many reasons for this. The biggest being that there's a few of us that are really active still, including myself, and that will likely turn them away. I just spent ~12-20 hours building my massive faith ship and I've had help from @Rivkiin Shadows doing so and I donno that either of us would be thrilled at the prospect of building again from scratch and it could cost us our (few) active players.

Instead what I think should be done is indeed start a new world, maybe even make it a default world, however, it'd be nice to see this server, it's builds, and all of its memories preserved and able to be used still.

Basically we would have 3 "Worlds" and they'd be as follows:
1) the current "old" world. Maybe name it Anembra X or soemthing where X is the version.
2) We'd have the new world and it'd be named world
3) Then we'd, of course, have our mine world still.

I do support the idea of a mega build. However, I think we should allow towns to be created and run independant. Maybe reduce the distance you need from another town drastically. This would allow us to all have our own towns if we wish but we can have sections. I see a few possible issues and fixes for this as well.

Issue 1: How do we ensure that every town has enough space?
This is a bit tricky to explain and solve, however, we can do allow the town mayor/assistants to layout a reasonable border. Consider this to be like subburbs. Basically Anembra would be a city and the sub burbs would be the individual towns.
Issue 2: what if a town/sub burb needs to expand:
We can have them create an outpost somewhere else outside of their city if the area around them has already been claimed if not they should be able to claim a reasonable amount of land for building.
* Reasonable amount of land should be defined and figured based upon how much is built on and actually constructed. This would prevent us from making a crap load of partial builds and jumping from one to another. I'm not saying we cannot make a few partial builds per town but we should try to limit it.

I'm sure I'll think of more but that's my thoughts thus far.

I say no to starting over, there is plenty of territory for new players to stake a claim on and start their town. Just like I did.

Wipe the slate clean and you are asking for trouble.

There are some truly incredible builds on Anembra that I would definitely like preserved. But with that said, I'm also ready to start anew as well.

While I'm not a huge fan of central megabuilds (most of my builds are very biome-inspired), I do agree that it would be really nice to find a way to keep builds relevant.

Also, (and keep in mind that this is just a suggestion, and I'm expecting a good deal of aversion to this) I think it would be cool to have an Amplified Anembra. Food for thought.

After thinking about it for a while and considering it strongly, I'm getting spoiled by the length of time that this map has been here and it's not something that many do. It's likely time to start it again.

There are a lot of truly amazing builds on the server for sure, and it really would be a shame to lose it all. That being said, I too am feeling rather spoiled by what we currently have. From Teralon to Elysium to Amberton (which has regrettably disappeared), there's been a lot of time dedicated to the server, and I feel like some people would definitely be disappointed to see their work go. Therefore, I'd like to tag a few people that I know were prominent builders to give them a chance to get their input.

@Atlas @xRetna @General_Bacon343 @GamerMom @Ranger @Bluelion319 @Yevn

Regardless, it's always an option to host the current server as a download on some website so everyone has a copy of their pride and joy.

Sorry for the double-post, but I've just had a couple of friends to announce their return to Anembra and return on projects they had started a while ago. They were ecstatic to learn that the server had not been wiped and their builds still remained, and cited that as one of their main reasons of return. This sort of situation puts me into a different mindset about the reset, and I'm not as strong into it as I was just a few hours ago.

Me? Prominent builder? More like master troll when you are building.

The beauty of minecraft is the infinite world generation. It is my opinion that rather then start the server fresh, we simply move further out onto the map. Most of the main towns are within a 3000 block radius of spawn, leaving entire continents untouched. Perhaps a warp to a "frontier town" is all that we need.

Well we all know ive been fairly dormant for a while. ive been on other servers and such, im no stranger to restarting and making a new. but alas. im still sentimental to Elysium. as much as id hate to see it go. id love for all of us to come together again and make something new. however at what it seem. we are still very underpopulated. we have an avg 2-3 people online at any given time. and me.. being a person who likes to talk and show off.. well i prefer if there were more players on at one time. so right now. i will support a non reset of the server. but a massive advertisement of our server. lets face it. we get barely any traffic, i mean i enjoy how close nit we get. but we drift apart a lot. it would be nice to see new faces. if we could alleviate some of the lag as well, there would be a higher chance of people to join and stay. and for me to come back and finish Elysium. So like i said. i say we keep it for now. if we happen to get popular again, we can reconsider a reset or not. same with if we stay unpopulated. I have a few ideas that could help a bit. since ive been a mod on another server for a little while, sorta learned how they run things. might be able to incorporate a few of their ideas to make our server here better? so thats my opinion. but if we do decide to reset the server. id want a copy of a few of my builds there... probably only the castle and arena honestly. but i think its a good idea if we reset the server we'd get keepsakes. But right now, i say keep the server as it is. thats my opinion right now. its nice to see the lot of ya again :)

The builds you have would be on the main world and we offered that for download it'd be a large file. Uncompressed it looks to be about 4.3GB currently. Even assuming you could download it at 1MB/s that's still a large download and is the size of a small game or an DVD approx.

I'm not against offering downloads for the world if people want that, but I wouldn't suggest doing it per town as that's a lot of work. Also, we'd have to come up with a plan on how to offer them as they would take up a lot of resources. All that being said If you have ideas that you think would help please do share as I, personally, like to hear constructive ideas and plans. Also, if you view the issue as problem that the server has in general then you can submit it to the problems forum. :)

well one idea... get rid of the whitelist :/ of course doing that.. would make it harder to trust new players. people coming and leaving and such. we'd probably have to invoke a stronger enforcement of rules and moderation. i mean i have lots of ideas. the practicality of them right now since were so thinly populated. its not very useful.
