Problem:
With traditional furnaces, one could set up a system to keep it going as long as there is fuel. All someone would need to do is have a hopper with stacks of coal feeding into the furnace.
This however is not possible with a lavafurnace, as a lavafurnace uses a liquid to keep it going.
Solution:
We add a plugin that would allow us to use dispensers to put lava in a LavaFurnace. LavaFurnace already supports redstone outputs signaling when chests are empty and the furnace is filled. Adding this would allow players to not have to micromanage the process, while not depreciating the need for lava.
Plausible Plugins:
On the LavaFurnace Bukkit page, it shows that the AutoSort plugin has functionality to do this. I'm aware we also have adequate coders available that could write such a seemingly simple plugin, but I'm not signing anybody up for this by any means.
